The breathing techniques that we use in HypnoBirthing are often cited as some of the most important tools that mums use during labour.
Although much effort has gone into promoting early skin-to-skin contact and parental involvement at vaginal birth, caesarean birth remains entrenched in surgical and resuscitative rituals, which delay parental contact, impair maternal satisfaction and reduce breastfeeding. We describe a ‘natural’ approach that mimics the situation at vaginal birth by allowing (i) the parents to watch the birth of their child as active participants (ii) slow delivery with physiological autoresuscitation and (iii) the baby to be transferred directly onto the mother’s chest for early skin-to-skin.
This resource is fantastic! The One World Birth is a project that brings you free videos with a different theme every month. The goal of the project is to connect people all over the world with the happenings in the birthing world. Keep watching videos on a regular basis to keep you inspired.
As viewers of One Born Every Minute will testify, one thing is certain: natural childbirth is excruciating. The Channel 4 hit series, set in a Southampton hospital maternity unit, ended its current run on Monday night. It will doubtless be re-commissioned as we can’t seem to get enough of women screaming in pain and men acting like hapless spare parts in the labour room.
